Dr. William Buchanan is a professor in the Department of Library Science at Clarion University of Pennsylvania where he teaches courses in children’s and youth services, multicultural sources and services in libraries, advanced reference services in the humanities, and collection development. He has an undergraduate degree in journalism from Georgia State University; an MLS and an MS in history, both from the University of Southern Mississippi; an MS in parks and recreation from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania; and an interdisciplinary doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His publications include book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in the fields of youth services in libraries, collection development, and library history. Prior to joining the faculty at Clarion he was an academic librarian at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He and his wife – also a librarian – are the parents of two children, Louden and Catherine. Dr. Buchanan is an avid marathon runner.
